May 5, 1999

Meetings: Normally the first Wednesday of each month, 8:30 - 10:00 am, United Way Building.

Introductions and announcements (summarized):
Sandy Owen - Passed out a new Benton-Franklin Health District Services brochure - note that the move to the new Richland office (471 Williams) will not take effect until July.. Saturday is Kids safe day at Kadlec from 10am - 3pm. Also provided an update on programs...
Coleen Drinkard - Riverfest '99 is just around the corner. Participants need to register by May 15.
Melanie Ogryzek - A very successful National Volunteer Week! The reading corps is done in July and we are starting to recruit for next year.
Patty Benton - Currently registering for next year (4 year olds from low income families). May 12th is the next evening registration.
Bev Casey - the new interim director for CBC Women's Resource Center. Provide support for women students. Next Don’t Quit workshop starts May 10th.
Roger Krebs - State legislature increased funding for DD services to about 120 million!
Julie Davis - Spring recruitment days are underway. The National NW summit is being hosted by the Tri-Cities! Also looking for collaborative summer programs - need ideas and help...
Jeri - Into T-ball season. Gearing up for summer day camps. Want to expand Martin Luther King center programs. As a result, there may be a position open in the next month or so. Call Jeri for details at 374-1908 ext 14
Judy Dirks - recently received a contract for providing independent living skills training for kids in foster care (16 or older). Also looking at creating a homeless shelter for women - need some ideas and input on this subject. She's talking to some potential funders and needs your input.. call her 946-4645.
Pat Underwood - May is mental health month. Also talked about suicide prevention, especially for kids...
Susan Shay Johnson - Now has more funding through September for more breast cancer screening & women’s health care exam.
Karlene Navarre - now taking applications for Pasco Housing. Also implementing a first time home ownership program.
Debi Yadao - increase in funding mainstream programs. A family unification program is underway. The welfare to work grant application has been submitted (jointly by all 3 housing authorities)... thanks to all for input and support.
Susan Thornton. Writing lots of grants for Success by Six. Working with the advisory council on targeted programs. The are a facilitator of programs, not a provider. Also Dispute Resolution Center - interested in peer mediation programs for kids. Next 40-hour basic mediation course will be June 18 - 20 and 26-27. Deadline for registration is June 10.
Sally Butler - Planned Parenthood Teen Clinic now charges $5.00 for office visits (but no one is turned away due to inability to pay).
Bruce McComb - CBPIN membership drive is underway. Also shared the huge success of Earth Day and the Computer Recycling Program.
