MEETING MINUTES
November 4, 1998
Officers: Sally Butler (Planned Parenthood of Central Wa) Chair, (Vacant) Chair Elect, Jeri Strange (YMCA) Vice Chair, Bruce McComb (RECA Foundation) Secretary, Susan Thornton (League of Women Voters) Treasurer.
Meetings: Normally the first Wednesday of each month, 8:30 - 10:00 am, United Way Building.
In attendance: Ed Frost (ben-Franklin Transit), Sandy Owen (B/F Health Dept), Julie Davis (Chinook Campfire), Sylvia Bakan, (Div of Child & Fam Svcs), Patti Benton (ECEAP), Susan Thornton (League of Women Voters), Sister Kathleen Mary McCarthy (Lourdes), Sally Butler (Planned Parenthood), Bruce McComb (RECA Foundation), Erin Tomlinson (Reading Foundation), Roger Krebs (TC Residential Svcs), Hazel Batchelor (United Way), Gail Greger (Volunteer Center), Lizann Powers-Hammond (WSU Coop), Jeri Strange (YMCA), Nita Sullivan (FARE).
The meeting was called to order by Sally Butler at 9:06am.
October 7, 1998 minutes were approved by all.
Treasurer’s Report : No transactions over past month - Balance - $3410.10
Announcements:
Jeri Strange - Deadline for Christmas Gift Application extended until December 17. More participants are needed. The Tri-City Herald employees will participate in donating gifts.
Sally Butler - Since December meeting will not be for wrapping presents, will call Welfare Reform Coalition to see if they still want to speak at December meeting. Christmas gift wrap will be at the Volunteer Center on December 18th.
Sue Thornton - Community leaders forum for Success by Six will be at the United Way building, November 17 from 2:30 - 5:00pm.
Erin Tomlinson - The Reading Foundation and Volunteer Center are sharing a Vista volunteer, and welcome Amy Shultz as a new member of the Reading Foundation. "Thanks for Giving Book Harvest" will run through Nov 20 - over 18,000 books collected so far. Sorting and distribution will be conducted in January.
Gail Greager - Volunteer Center Open house will be Dec 17 at 4:30pm.
Hazel Batchelor - Community Relations. Conducting research on programs that deal with proactive gang prevention, drug prevention... give her a call, she needs your input.
Roger Krebs - December 2nd from 3 - 6pm Open House at Tri-City Residential. Come help celebrate their 20th anniversary.
Sylvia Bakan - Child and Family Services move to the old Smith Building now scheduled for December 9.
Sister Mary Kathleen - working on establishing a Dental Clinic in Connell.
New Business:
8:30 - 10:00 am was approved by all as the new HSC meeting time - will take effect in December.

Approved by all.
HSC Handout for Legislature.
Change last comment to add "business" and bold/cap HUMAN SERVICES INFRASRUCTURE. Add "including children" in second bullet of Health Care. Will deliver on bottle of "Elmer's Glue".
Sally will call to get on legislative schedule.
Above changes approved by all.
General discussion ensued about distributing handout with a bottle of glue and to expand distribution to the media, other government representatives, and generally use this as an education and awareness campaign for the HSC. Gail will work on glue and labels.
December meeting. Secretary will put out February 5, 1997 retreat results to membership to be used as a basis for discussions to "Define our Focus".
